Yorkshire Dales Landscapes by Dave Coates

Yorkshire Dales Landscapes by Dave Coates

£6.99 GBP
The Yorkshire Dales is a unique area of natural beauty, a large part of which is protected by its status as a national park. The landscape is mostly limestone – rich green valleys or dales topped by contrasting white-coloured limestone crags or cut through by rivers forming wild valleys or fells of millstone grit.

The limestone geology gives rise to some spectacular and unusual features – the limestone cliffs and pavements at Malham and the dramatic waterfalls of Hardraw Force and Ingleton. There are also architectural “jewels” such as Bolton Abbey in Wharfedale as well as the many small villages to be found throughout the region. A number of well-known long distance footpaths – such as the Dales Way, the Coast-to-Coast footpath and the Pennine Way – traverse the area. And the picturesque Settle-Carlisle railway line also crosses the Dales, providing two spectacular rail viaducts at Arten Gill and Ribblehead.

In Yorkshire Dales Landscapes, photographer and writer Dave Coates guides you through some of the Dales’ most famous beauty spots as well as some of the region’s lesser-known attractions. He brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the subject as he takes the reader around each of the “visual tours” which form the five chapters of the book.

Yorkshire Dales Landscapes captures the essence of this unique region and its countryside, taking you on a very personal journey through its scenery and seasonal attractions.
