When George Lambton’s Men and Horses I Have Known was first published, in October 1924, it was an immediate success; so much so, that the publisher reprinted in the month of publication in order to meet demand – and still could not fulfil orders, so reprinted in the November of that year.
The book became a classic and remains so to this day. Lambton was an accomplished writer and much of the charm of his book is the style with which it is written.
In 1963, J.A. Allen published the book and since then it has become something of a collector’s item. This edition, in paperback for the first time, is a facsimile reprint of the 1963 edition and includes all the original illustration plates and text as Lambton wrote it in 1924. Due to the changes in printing processes since then, it has been necessary to make minor amendments to the positioning of illustration plates and the preliminary pages.
